8 September 1907 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 8th [September 1907]. Went to morning service at 10.30. Mrs Silver lunched out at Lido. The General came to tea at 4 & I went out afterwards with him in gondola & he dropped me at the Arbib’s house. I came back a little after 6 & sent the gondola to meet the 6.45 train at the station by which Nellie & Charlie Wyld arrived from Paris– This is their first visit to Venice & they are clearly impressed with the beauty & wonder of the place. It was a very hot night & we sat in the belvedere in the evening. The only drawback to our enjoyment are the many mosquitos.
