9 September 1907 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 9th [September 1907]. Charlie & I had a conference over V. Murano affairs wh he has come to investigate. At 11 Arbib came to see Charlie & brought with him Signor Tabet a lawyer friend of his. After much talk they agreed to meet tomorrow at the V. Murano Stabto to look into affairs on wh Tabet promises to give his advice. The rest of the morng we sat chatting & working in the studio. Mrs Silver went out but we found it too hot to care to move about. At 4 the Genl came to tea & took me out in the gondola for an airing while Mrs Silver took out the Wylds in my gondola to the Piazza where Charlie wanted to see the rival shops to the V. Murano. After dinner we sat in Belvedere & at 10 Mrs Silver went off to the station to take the 11.5 train for Genoa where she will embark for England. Signor Arbib came to see Charlie in the morning & they began to look into the affairs of the Co Venezia Murano & they sat with Nellie & me in the Studio & discussed many details & agreed to go into examination of the business at the shop. Mr Arbib & Sr Guggenheim were of opinion that before going further Charlie should visit some of the principal shops here so as to have an idea what the commerce of the place is. After tea to wh Genl de Horsey came at 4, Mrs Silver went out with the Wylds in my gondola & took them to Pauly’s & other places—as they were to go incog. I lent them the gondola & went out for a row in the Genl’s gondola & we all met again at dinner. Mrs Silver left for Genoa.
