12 September 1907 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 12th September [1907]. Charles went off to the V.M. & decided that it is necessary that I should sign the renewal of a bill in the Banca [illegible word] so he sent Marzollo with it here & I did so. Malagola lunched with us & settled to take Nellie out tomorrow morng to see the Doge’s Palace. After lunch I took the Wylds in gondola to Murano to see over the glass works there & that Charlie should go into the details of the property of the V. Murano there wh are very large one. We went over everything. Rioda the glass maker there is anxious that Charlie should see Cav. Barbon of the glass bead trust who has also a plan to offer the V. Murano Co for reconstruction. Telephoned to him & settled he shd call tomorrow. We then went to dine with Arbib & Bianca on the water terrace of the Calcina. In the eveng we went over to the Hospital & sat in the garden. Antonio the Eden’s gardener was there with a friend playing mandoline & guitar. They played with so much spirit that we were moved to dance. Charlie made us walse & Bianca & I tried a kind of fandango! It was a very hot night & quite still. We were very childish!! I ought to know better at my age.
