17 September 1907 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 17th [September 1907]. My lameness increases & my right knee painful. I went over to the Hospital & Sister Chaffey urged me to stay in bed 3 or 4 days & try to “sweat out” the rheumatism & said she would come & see to me. In the evening I had my usual reception but not many people came. Mrs Curtis brought Mr Sargent R.A. & his dear little old sister. An old Mrs Montagu (née Monk) also came who still paints in water colours & is hard at work here now. The Sargents are leaving for Rome. According to my promise I spent the next 3 days in bed trying to get well.
