9 October 1907 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 9th [October 1907]. There was a Sailor’s Inst: Committee held here at 11 & which was long, to decide on a new manager in place of Royon who has resigned. After a heated discussion none of the candidates were accepted. In the midst Sr Guggenheim came & I asked him to be kind enough to make a design for a sign board for outside the Cosmopolitan Hospital—my idea being one in wrought iron. He promised to see to it. After lunch Dr Patterson Bey the Dr at the Brit: His: at Constantinople in our day came to see me. We had not met for 28 years! He is not much changed. I arranged to take him tomorrow morning to see our hospital. About 10 p.m. Sir Edwin & Lady Egerton arrived from Rome to stay a few days.
