29 January 1908 — 3 Savile Row
Wednesday. 29th January [1908]. I went to take my 12th bath at 10.45 & was back before 12– Blanche walked in to pay me a little visit but did not remain long as she was going to the opening of Parliament. Luckily it was a lovely bright sunlit day. I walked to Ryder St to lunch with old Mr Somerset Beaumont at Dieudonné’s. I there found a large company assembled, Miss Honor Brooke doing the honors for her uncle. There were several people I did not know & some I knew but not their names. There was Miss Brooke Hunt & Mrs Arkwright, née Somers Cocks & Mr G. Leveson Gower & Mrs Tyrell &c &c. We assembled in a drawing room & afterwards lunched in an adjoining room where were 2 tables laid. I sat at Mr Beaumont’s right & had Mr L. Gower on my right. He was very pleasant & we told each other experiences of Indian travel. I got home at 4. Bee Eliot came to tea and Mrs Langenbach who is a kind & pretty old lady. She came to tell me of a wonderful cure for rheumatism she had heard of & stayed some time talking. She has a soft pretty voice. Had a little dinner party in the evening—Mr & Mrs Dacre Du Cane. Corise Rodney—my brother Monty & Mr & Mrs Barclay Squire, & Nellie. Mrs Dacre looked nice & spoke pretty broken English.
