1 March 1908 — 3 Savile Row
Sunday. 1st March [1908]. Blanche & Edward called for me a little before 11 & took me with them to St James Church Piccadilly. The music was very good the church full & the service made a comfortable impression on one & carried one upwards. Canon McCormick preached a sermon on the riches of Abraham warning us not to lay up riches for ourselves & urging all to give more for God & each other & to remember we shall have to give our accounts before God. Came out of church at 12.30 & found it just beginning to snow. Hastened home having no umbrella & got indoors just as enormous flakes came down with lightening & a loud thunderclap. The snow only lasted about ½ hour but it was very cold. I telephoned to Hallam Murray & asked him to come to lunch with me which he did. He promised me some books for the sale very kindly. Mr Wood came to tea, a young lawyer I had once met at Baveno when there with the Aldersons– Mr W. then played the violin charmingly and Monty A. used to accompany him. My brother Monty also came to see me. Abt 7 Connie came—worked at bead chains, dined & went home at 10 when I came to bed.
