4 March 1908 — 3 Savile Row
Wednesday. 4th March [1908]. Mr Veritas came to arrange about the putting up of the new mantel & is to give me patterns of colours. Nelly & I went out at 11 to St James’ Church as it is Ash Wednesday. The Commination Service was read & Canon McCormick preached a very short sermon. Connie came to luncheon & worked at bead chains. At 3 I went out with Charlie & Nellie in the brougham to look at the doorway Charlie thought of buying & then left him at Fortnum’s & Nell & I went to the Venice Murano glass shop & chose a lot of glass to sell next week at Gros. Sqr. Meanwhile Connie sat here working & I found her here when I returned at 4.30. At 5 Bee called for her mother in the carriage our family have provided Connie with for this season. Mrs Quenton Harris came to tea & we had much talk over furnishing & decorating houses & I consulted her as to the colour to choose for this library. Mr Walsh dined with the Wylds & me at 7.30 & took us to the Lyric Theatre to see a new piece “The White man” in wh Mr Louis Waller played very well. It is a moving & interesting & tragic. The scene in the ranch in America is very well done.
