5 March 1908 — 3 Savile Row
Thursday. 5th [March 1908]. Henry’s birthday! I went to the electric treatment at 10 & got home & to bed by 11– Got up, after a sleep, for luncheon. Connie, Lady Humphrey, the Wylds, Gweneth P., Dr Collisson came to lunch & afterwards Dr C. sang some of his charming Irish songs. He brought me for the Venice Sailor’s Institute a gramaphone & we tried it. It is a capital thing. At 3.30 I went out with Nellie in the brougham & we called on Mrs Marrable. She took us up to her studio at the top of her house 60 Cleveland Square that I might choose a picture of her painting for the Sale on Tuesday. I brought away a garden picture. Home to tea at 5—a telephonic message came from the Dss of Somerset asking me to go to see her at 5. I did so, but found her so busy with a party she was giving this evening that I came away & walked home by 6.30. Louis Du Cane called to get me to sign documents. Sir John & Lady Craggs came to dinner. He is a clever man who has risen from small things & is a chartered accountant. His wife seems a nice lady. Sir John & I talked most of the evening of Smyrna & our foreign experiences. He has travelled a good deal on business. He is interesting himself in the V. Murano Glass Co.
