16 March 1908 — 3 Savile Row
Monday. 16th [March 1908]. Eda & I went off to 7 Welbeck St directly after breakfast & I had my last electric treatment—the 24th. Came home & went to sleep till one when Blanche came to see me & sat chatting till I went to lunch. We were bemoaning the difficulties of making Connie’s life happy– How troubled she is by her son Ernie who is always worrying her for money. How she & the girls have no sympathy for each other & how restless she is poor thing. It is a worry to us all & we would willingly help her if we could. Blanche went home & Connie came to lunch. Charlie W. also came to lunch. At 3 Eda & I went for a drive & came in to tea. Old Lady Lyall came to call & late Nora Hallé came. Augusta Gregory went out after lunch & came in after tea. She dined alone & went off to the play. I went to dine with Lord Stanmore & sent Eda on in the carriage to dine with her uncle Sir Charles Alderson. I met at dinner Lady Wantage, Lord Galloway & Mr E. Benson, son of the Archbishop who took me down to dinner & was very pleasant & talkative. Lady Wantage was very lame but looked very sweet with her silver white hair & gentle manner. I have since going to bed written 9 letters & 5 post cards & am so addle headed I must go to sleep– I went downstairs in my dressing gown & posted my letters in the door post box wh is a great convenience but a snare. However I had let many letters remain too long unanswered & this is the only quiet time I have had to answer them 2 a.m.! basta———
