31 March 1908 — Rome
Tuesday. 31st [March 1908]. Got up late. After lunch I walked with Olga Egerton in the garden in lovely sunshine. Donna Laura Minghetti & Dss of Sermoneta came to call & joined us there. But first came Professore Venturi to see me & Olga took him round the garden which enchanted him. He told me he was getting on slowly with the catalogue of my pictures & would come again to Venice in the summer to put the finishing touches. Ada Sermoneta remained to tea with Olga & me after which I came upstairs & wrote a lot of letters & Olga went out to a concert. Dinner party consisted of Russian Minister to the Pope & his wife, the Delmé Ratcliffes, the Austrian Amb. & his wife, the Franquevilles, Sir Hedworth Williamson, Mr Phipps, Lord Durham &c &c. Lady Egerton had been invited to go to the theatre & slipped away soon after dinner leaving us to finish the evening rather to the horror of Ct Franqueville who does not understand such unconventional ways.
