20 May 1908 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 20th [May 1908]. Exceptionally hot weather for the time of year. The heat makes one get out of bed early & I apply myself to type writing & am copying interesting letters of Henry’s to Mr Ross at Mosul in 1867. Aline Lambton goes her own ways in the mornings wh leaves me quite free. After lunch she sat to me for the arms & hands of the little guardian Angel I am working at. Then soon after 4 we walked to Mme Wiels in Campo S. Polo Palazzo Soranzo where we found a small party assembled. I had to leave Aline & then hurried home to receive Ola who came fm London by the train de luxe arriving at 4.55. As soon as I had given her some tea I went off in gondola to the Frari to Signora Malagola where I found a large party in the garden drinking tea. Returned home & sat talking to Ola who had gone to bed fatigued with her journey. Aline went out to dine with Mrs Rutron at the hotel so I dined alone & sent for Sister Chaffey who came in my gondola & we went to the usual concert of the Sailors Institute where was Canon Ragg & some ladies who played a song—& now I must go to sleep.
