18 June 1908 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 18th [June 1908]. Very hot & busy morning all sorts of people came to make last arrangements. At last at 12 all was done & Olga came & sat with me in the studio for a quiet half hour’s talk. She & Sir Edwin & Mr Whitaker will leave by 4.40 train this afternoon for Belluno to make a short tour in the Dolomites– I left Venice for Bologna by 3.20 train. Olga accompanied me to the station in gondola & Sir Edwin & Mr W. walked there. I arrived with Baker at 6.40 & was met by Da Laura Minghetti’s servant. I had a hearty welcome from Da Laura & Prof. Faccioli who is staying with her & we sat in the balcony where it was delightfully cool & the view over the town of Bologna is wonderful. In the evening after sitting in the balcony & watching the fireflies hurrying by we went in doors & played double patience & then to bed at 10– We talked Da Laura & I, over Sir Edwin’s illness—how he has had a (sun) stroke, & is feeble but that he had benefitted by his stay in Venice. We feel how anxious Olga must be about him.
