Tuesday. 21st [July 1908]. I helped Blanche to arrange a quantity of Bessborough letters she had just bought at Mr Claude Ponsonby’s sale of family things. To the indignation he has sold all the family letters in his possession of the last 100 years– There are letters of & to Lady Caroline Lamb & many of Ld Bessh when he was Postmaster Genl in Ireland. Mr C. Ponsonby has wasted a good fortune & now has to make money in this way—not caring even to offer relics interesting to the family for private purchase. | |
