22 August 1908 — Castel Savoia, Gressoney St. Jean
Saturday. 22nd [August 1908]. I did not walk out this morning but gave the time to writing letters. Senatore Blaserna came again to pay his respects to the Queen. It was not very fine & after tea rained so that the Queen wd not go out but began to sing German songs of Prof: Giacosa’s accomp. She has still a very strong voice & sings with spirit. Mimi & I decided to try & get a walk & left the Q. at her music, put on our hats & started off. We got on very well from here to the main road towards Gressoney when the rain began in good earnest & coming back as fast as we could by the fields we were overtaken by a thunderstorm & got very wet. We got in abt 7 & hastened to get indoors. Mimi who did not even open her umbrella much has been far more wet than I was, but I got dreadfully out of breath going quick up hill.
