26 September 1908 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 26th [September 1908]. Had rather a bad day, headache all morning & heavy scirocco. Could do little but loll about in the studio & talk to Canon Ragg & Mr Montalba who came abt 10.30 to fetch the money I had collected for the hospital in my absence, over 3000 lire. By dint of quinine I got better by lunch time. It rained a good deal all day & I did not go out. Revd Fisher came to see the Canon at tea time to arrange to help him with his services tomorrow. At dinner Cicely Ady had to retire precipitately from the table & go to bed– She has been taking quinine for a bad cold, wh evidently had rather poisoned her & the scirocco weather has tried us all.
