13 November 1908 — San Antonio Palace, Malta | |
Friday. 13th [November 1908]. We motored into Valletta after breakfast & Col: Biancardi showed me over the armoury in the Palace & took me into the public Library where are some very interesting MSS. Afterwards we accompanied the Duchess to various antiquity shops but found nothing worth buying & so returned to lunch & I went out no more. In the evening the Connaughts gave a dinner party to various naval & military officers & their wives. The table was very pretty decorated with lots of roses. It was an old fashioned mahogany table with steps round the edges wh were removed before dessert in the old style. The evening was spent in the large drawing room a pretty square room at the end of a verandah. All was over abt 11. | |
