9 February 1909 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 9th February [1909]. I received as usual in the evening & a gt many ladies of the Venetian society came in a sort of demonstration of gratitude for work I have done in helping in the refugee work. To them it seems extraordinary to me after my experiences at Constantinople & the refugees during the Turco Russian war, it is child’s play. However it is very mind of them & I appreciate it. The days of February went with usual occupations, enamelling, visiting San Daniele, paying a few visits & then I took to my bed again with another attack of influenza being the third I had this winter. The weather has been bright, fine, dry & very cold—& then we had at the beginning March a heavy fall of snow & it was colder than ever & it seems as tho’ the spring was never coming.
