19 March 1909 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 19th [March 1909]. Just as Ola & I were going out walking after lunch Mr Horatio Brown came to tell me the memorial window we are putting up to Ruskin is made & is to be sent out at once to be put up in our church here. Ola & I walked to the Archivio & paid a visit to Sra Malagola & thence on to the Piazza. En route we met Mrs Eden who said they had gone to the Rossini theatre last night & found it closed owing to the indisposition of Sa Talese (Hellman) so I went to call on her & found she had really [been] unwell & had been unable to sing. She told me she was to have her benefit next Tuesday & begged me to go to it. I said I would try to arrange it. We found the gondola waiting at the Piazza & came home in it to tea. Mrs Eden came with her niece Mrs Duff Gordon to see us–
