6 April 1909 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 6th April [1909]. Had a visit from Pss Bülow, Da Laura Minghetti & Sr Faccioli in the morning. It was still very windy—this is the 4th day of Bora! & it has been very cold. At 4 o’cl I set off with Mmes Wad: & Tal: to the hospital– When we got to the Giudecca the latter was so terrified of the waves of wh there were some small remains that we turned back & landed & went across to the Giudecca island by the ferry steamboat. I showed the ladies over the hospital & Sister Chaffey gave us tea. We took a walk in the Eden’s garden where we found all the daffodils & hyacinths in flower wh made us feel for the 1st time we were in spring. In the evening the wind quite died down. On our return found an invitation from Pss Bülow for Mme Wad: & me to lunch with them tomorrow at the Hotel at 1. Mes: Wad: & Tal: had arranged to leave tomorrow morng for Paris but they cd not resist the invitation & decided to start on Thursday. Mr & Mrs Hellman dined with us & the latter sang in the evening. Only the Hultons & Mr Bond came—as it is Holy Week, I suppose, no one else wd go out.
