16 April 1909 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 16th [April 1909]. Mme Cahen d’Anvers came to see me—sister of Mme Bauer who had been our great friend of Madrid who is now dead. The Bauer house was very hospitable & we spent many a pleasant eveng in it. Mme Cahen came to beg me to interest myself in a little Messina refugee whom she has placed in the Scilla to be brought up as a fisherman. I went to San Daniele with Css Papadopoli to see after the refugees & then she took me to the Giudecca & I went to the Hospital & to see the Edens in their garden & called at Mrs Eram’s on the way home—& saw Miss West who lives in the same house. I am trying to help Mrs Eram to sell her furniture the proceeds of wh she will give to the Hospital in memory of her husband. Young Whitaker & his friend Gardener dined with us. Both are taking apartments in Venice.
