24 June 1909 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 24th [June 1909]. Today the K & Q of Italy arrived at 3 & the town was bright with flags & hangings. Ersilia Canevaro brought her niece to see them pass– Afterwards I went out in gondola to the Eden’s garden & brought back Miss Chaffey from the hospital to dine with me. It gives her a little change to come out. Mr Eden has been in correspondence with Dr Werner abt operations at our hospital & holds firmly to the rules laid down. I expect he will not come to us with patients in future. He has also seen Dr van Someren who agrees as a member of the Committee but disagrees as a physician. Mr Eden lays down that in case of need the matron & housesurgeon shd be able to ask for a consultation with another Dr.
