13 July 1909 — Carlsbad | |
Sunday. 13th [July 1909]. Usual round of waters. Dr Otto Kraus called again upon us– Had much talk with him about the unpopularity of we English on the Continent. He said he had one objection to make i.e. that we spelt “I” with a capital letter—& are the only nation that does it. It is a clever notion—ben trovato. I am reading to Connie Price Collier’s “England & the English” wh picks out our faults & foibles—& I recommended the Dr the book—he was having nothing medical to discuss, we discussed my much hated country. We had a visit from Monsigr Stanley towards evening. | |
