30 July 1909 — 3 Savile Row
Friday. 30th July [1909]. I went off with Baker, my maid, to Paddington to meet Blanche at 9.15 a.m. to accompany her to Ireland. We went by the route to Fishguard– Had an excellent crossing to Rosslare & went by the Waterford train to Bagenalstown where we expected to find Blanche’s motor car but we found it had come & gone & the station was all dark & there was only one porter there on duty. He offered to run into the town to order us a car & went off. Blanche & I followed him in the dark (it was past 9 p.m.) & after stumbling on a rough road we got to a Commerical Hotel where a car was being got ready for us. We got in it & went back to the station—got the kitchen maid & her hampers of food up into the car & drove off to Garry Hill. Ellen the ancient maid in charge was up.
