12 August 1909 — Bessborough, Fiddown, County Kilkenny
Thursday. 12th [August 1909]. Lady Bessborough (mère) & May Ponsonby arrived from London. She is a wonderful old lady. Her red hair hardly tinged with white. She takes an interest in all that goes on & were it not for her deafness would join in all the jokes. As it is she often has them related to her thro’ the ear trumpet she always carries. Her son Edward plays a game of patience every evening & she sits by & helps him with it.
