18 August 1909 — Bessborough, Fiddown, County Kilkenny
Wednesday. 18th [August 1909]. I accompanied Edward in the afternoon to the harvest field close to the Park to see him shoot wild pigeons. We sat for a couple of hours under a hedge concealed by bows & from there waited till the birds came down to a decoy. As soon as one bird was shot, Edward propped him up by the side of the decoy to aid others in the deception. Only 4 or 5 were shot before I left for home. It was a lovely day & a pretty scene—to see the people cutting the oats & making sheaves.
