22 September 1909 — Salce, Belluno
Wednesday. 22nd [September 1909]. He left for Venice & we resumed our old ways. I had brought some of the fashionable puzzles with me wh amuse my hosts & I have taught Carry to play a 2 handed patience wh amuses our evenings. The weather is still warm & fine tho’ there have been occasional storms of rain. This country is most beautiful—a green fertile valley set in fine Dolomite hills in every direction. One can walk for miles in the fields without offending the owners of the farms—good quiet well mannered people who work hard & are happy & contented.
