2 February 1910 — 3 Savile Row
Wednesday. 2nd [February 1910]. At 11 Augusta Gregory & I went off to Southampton Row with our copy of the Mabinogion & my enamels to ask Sangorsky & Sutcliffe about binding them. We found the place on a 5th story to wh we went in a lift. The Binder was a very intelligent young man—& we soon arranged with him how it is to be done– Augusta & I parted & I went to Cav. Sqr as I decided I must consult Blanche on the Pss Christian question. I found her just going out so she begged me to come to luncheon to meet Mr Mews who is to edit the Journals– I walked home & ascertaining that all my party would be out at luncheon I decided to lunch at Cav. Sqr. Blanche fetched me in the motor wh was very convenient. Mr Mews seems an intelligent young man & will evidently do his part well– He has a good memory & some knowledge of old things. In fact he seems more practical than Mr Lane– At 3 Lady Vivian & her daughter Alexandra called for me & took me a drive in motor. We went to see the Loan Collection of pictures at Burlington House which is very interesting—many Sir Joshuas, Raeburns &c. There I met Mr Stopford Brooke whom I was glad to see—also Mrs Ady who promised to lunch with me on Friday. On leaving we went for one turn in the Park & on the way back burst a tire & had to stop to put on a “Stepney”—but I was home at 5 & had a quiet tea with Nellie & then retired to my own room to rest. I took Kate in a taxi to dine with her son Reggie & dropping her went on to dine in Cav. Sqr as Blanche was quite alone. Consulted her about Pss. Christian & we agreed that I should write to her to offer to go to Cumberland Lodge to talk over the matter. I wrote & posted the letter before leaving Cav. Sqr to go home to bed.
