8 March 1910 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 8th [March 1910]. I prepared to receive my friends—the only person who turned up was our good chaplain Mr Price. All our provision of sandwiches & cakes had been laid in in vain. I received a telegram from Marchesa di Villamarina saying that Queen Margherita would be glad if I would go & stay with her any day between now & the 15th at Rome. So the next day I wrote to fix next Monday, 14th, for going there. I had to make up my mind to send away a cook I had just brought from England who was highly recommended to me & does not fulfil my expectations. It is a great trouble & expense.
