14 March 1910 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 14th [March 1910]. I left for Rome with Baker by 9.50 train. Arrived there at 10.40 p.m. The Q. messenger met me at the station & her two motor men siezed my bags & conveyed them to the smart little sort of brougham motor wh came to meet me. In a few minutes Baker & I entered the Palazzo della Regina Margherita & were conveyed by the lift up to the beautiful apartment on the 2nd floor where I inhabit a large sitting room with a small bed room next it & from there leads into a toilette room which has a bath partitioned off. Tea, soup, sandwiches were ready for me. The Marchesa di Villamarina came up to my rooms to welcome me—& after a few minutes chat I was glad to say good night & to get into bed.
