22 March 1910 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 22nd [March 1910]. Arrived at Venice at 10 a.m. Hugh Whitaker came by the same train. I found Ola away at Portofino where she had taken Barbara to join her parents. Breakfasted with Nela & went to bed to rest till lunch time. Nothing particular to record. In afternoon I went to see Angela Reinelt who welcomed me warmly back. I found that the Dss of Genoa’s lady in waiting Mara Pignone had come from Turin to spend a month with Angela arrived last week– On the news of the Duchess illness she had hastened to return to her Royal mistress. I went over to the Giudecca to see how the Hospital was getting on & found all well & Sister Christie superintending a great spring cleaning in the matron’s absence– From there I went to Pal. Barbarigo to see Mr Eden & to tell him that I had seen his wife in Rome.
