30 April 1910 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 30th [April 1910]. A very unquiet morning. First came Montalba abt accounts at the Hospital—then the English Consul & Avv. Bizio the latter to beg for money for the Q. of Rumenia’s Cetta Di Luce or asylum for the blind. I got rid of him with 50 lire. Then the Consul mysteriously communicated to me the fact which everyone here already knows that our Queen will arrive in the yacht from Corfù on Tuesday next & after a little more business not important he left. Com: Malagola came in to say he is going away for a few days—& then it was lunch time to which meal I had invited Mrs Curtis & her friend the Revd Wilson Vicar of Dedham who is staying with her, also Mr & Mrs Hillman who arranged to sing at my next Tuesday “at home”. At 4 out in gondola with the Vivians to the Montalbas at home– I had asked Gino Franchetti to dine but he said he must dine with his father but would come after. Just as we were sitting down to dinner at 8 he appeared & managed to eat another dinner. He played to us all the evening afterwards.
