19 May 1910 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 19th [May 1910]. There was a good deal of noise all night from people going about expecting the end of the world in the most cheerful way possible! & probably are surprised at finding the world going on this morning as usual. The weather is fierce & its gets hotter & more like usual summer. At 11 Angela Reinelt telephoned to ask me to go & see her so I went on foot. Found her very weak after a very sharp attack of gout, but up & about. Sat an hour with her & then came home. After lunch I walked round to see Mrs Whitaker who is not well again & arranged to send her a Dr. At 4 went out in gondola with Princess Thurn & Taxis & Mr Johnson to the Hospital where we had tea & then went across to the Eden’s garden where there were a great many English strangers calling. Mr Whitaker & Alick Yorke were there. I brought the latter back to Pal: Trepoletto & Mr Whitaker took my Princess over to the Piazza. Ola went out to arrange the flowers in the church for tomorrow’s funeral service & did not come down to dinner. Malagola fetched the girls & Mrs Johnson after dinner to go for a walk in the moonlight. I & the Princess sat talking till bed time.
