25 May 1910 — Ca’ Capello, Venice | |
Wednesday. 25th [May 1910]. Mr Williamson came to lunch. He lives here at the Pal Capello Rio Marin where he has an apartment. His parents have a place in Scotland & he knows the Ancasters well so Evie wanted to meet him. When at college he ’verted to Romanism & became a priest—& after being a fine preacher at the Oratory he suddenly left it & unfrocked himself & came to settle here. At 2 all my party went off on an expedition to the Islands of Murano &c in a launch hired by Evy Ancaster. I had a quiet afternoon & paid some calls in gondola. Mr Theodore Byard dined with us. Afterwards I took Betty Murray & Helen Johnson to the Sailor’s Inst. where we expected to find a sailors concert going on. Finding there were no sailors there we came home at once. | |
