5 July 1910 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 5th [July 1910]. Another almost cold day. I worked hard all morng at proofs tho’ I was stupid in the head from the queer weather. Princess Borghese & her daughter Mme de Montebelle besides the Malagola couple came to tea—the Montebelles have bought and almost rebuilt a palazzo on the Grand Canal & they & the Borgheses are going to move into it this autumn till then the Borgheses have found a lodging in Campo S. Polo. When they had all left I went out in gondola with Com: Malagola, Ola having taken out his wife. He left me at the Cos. Hospital where meeting also Mr Whitaker I returned home with him in his launch. He leaves for London tomorrow. Miss Bowyer left this house after tea to stay with Mrs Stainer. Ola went out after dinner in gondola & I remained playing patience till about 10 when I had a visit from Princess Giovanelli & her mother Countess Serago. The Princess is young & handsome & her mother nice looking & youngish & both very fashionably dressed—narrow dresses drawn in about the knees & enormous hats. Very unbecoming. They stayed about an hour. After a very still evening a strong wind suddenly got up. What queer weather. It appears that there is snow in the Cadore.
