6 August 1910 — Axenstein
Saturday. 6th [August 1910]. Eating my breakfast I broke one of my teeth. What was to be done? As soon as I was dressed I went down to consult Da Laura. She called in Baron de Bülow in consultation. The Hotel keeper recommended a dentist at Lucerne. The Baron was going there himself in route for Berne—so the dentist was telephoned to, he appointed 2 o’cl for seeing me. I & Baker hurried on our bonnets & accompanied the Baron by a 12 o’cl train to Brünnen where we got the train for Lucerne. The Baron continued his journey—& we went to the dentist who said he could repair the damage if we returned in ½ hour. We just went to the Schweitzerhof & got some lunch & then returned to Dr. Schaer. He released me just in time for us to hurry across to the station & take the express of 3.59 to Brunnen—& got back to the Hotel about 6. Played écarté with Da Laura in the eveng in the reading room where we avoided the company of Neapolitan singers who serenaded in a deafening manner the inmates the centre hall.
