7 August 1910 — Axenstein
Sunday. 7th [August 1910]. Went to the service in a nice little English church in the grounds of the hotel. Took a walk in the afternoon with Da Laura to the view in the Axenstein; sitting down every now & then. We spoke much of death & the future life. She said it is curious to feel that one is at the end of this life—knowing that at the age of 82 there can be but little time left to her in the course of nature. She wondered whether the final moments were very painful. I said that it seemed to me that God in his mercy would so ordain that the spirit’s hold on life would be so loosened that the transition would be made easy; but who knows. The Baron returned from his journey & our little party is complete again.
