6 September 1910 — Salce, Belluno
Tuesday. 6th [September 1910]. At 2.30 Carry & I drove off the Sospirolo to pay Mr & Mrs Price a visit. It was cold but the sun came out & warmed us up & the drive was lovely—thro’ Bribano—Meano & up under the hill side where are many nice villas. We found the Price’s sitting in the garden & they gave us a warm welcome. We were joined by Ct Luigi Miari & his brother (Ingeniere of Parma) & we sat out & had tea. The view is lovely & the distance as the crow flies, is not great from Salce but we had to make a long distance & it took us 1½ hour to drive there. After our visit to the Price’s we went to pay Ct Luigi a visit at his villa close by. He has a lovely wild garden in imitation of an English Park. He told us that his grandfather had 80 years ago been in Paris & there having seen English gardening had determined to make an English Park. The result is very happy & the trees are now of a good size. The house wh looks imposing from outside is small & not very comfortably furnished but the view from it is splendid. We went to the traditional grove on the knoll close by. The garden is ill kept & is a queer mixture of flowers & vegetable—but all is kept in good order. We left the kind Miaris at 6 & drove back to Salce. I got out on the road near there & got a short walk to warm myself for the air was keen.
