6 October 1910 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 6th [October 1910]. The wind changed in the night to Bora & we woke to cold this morning. Mr Arbuthnot left us for London by train de luxe at 11.45. Mr H. Brown, Mr Montalba & Audry Trevelyan all came to call in the morning & we were a large party in the studio. It blew so hard that in the afternoon we could not get along in the gondola & had to get out at St. Moisé & continue on foot. I went to Grand Hotel to fetch the Northcotes, Lady Jersey & we walked by San Stefano to Pal. Barbaro to see Mrs Curtis & have tea with her. Looking from her windows one saw the canal covered with waves. This is weather of Jany not autumn. What a queer year! After taking my party back to their hotel I walked home. Malagola dined with us & took Nela to the Goldoni Theatre to see Zago in “Congresso dei Nonzoli.” Eda & I played patience.
