24 October 1910 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 24th [October 1910]. After a restless night I got up & went to the Archives soon after 10. I found Concetta more calm—telegrams were pouring condolences from all parts. A Sigra Cesana was sitting there. People came & went. I remained on till nearly 12. Decided to put off my journey to Bologna from tomorrow till Wednesday. After lunch I went again to Concetta for an hour but had to be home as I had arranged for several people to come to tea. Mr Curtis, Lady Margaret Levett, Mr Price, Hugh Whitaker & his cousins Sartorius, Mrs Bob Lyttleton, Mr Emmerson, Mr Olton & Mr Hillman. I had hoped to have had them sing—but no one seemed inclined for it & made so many excuses that I did not insist so we sat & chatted till after dark & then I had a quiet evening with the girls.
