7 November 1910 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 7th [November 1910]. Went over to the Hospital with Nela & then back to the Civil Hospital at SS Zanipolo to see an Italian woman who lives in the little calle leading from here to S. Polo. When first I went I was told it was “ora de sitenzio” & I could not go in till 4 so I had to return later. She was glad to see me. The place seemed clean but the attendants very untidy. One woman had a dirty sort of white mob cap all over her head which is perhaps a wise precaution as they say the patients are never washed and their heads are alive.
