26 April 1911 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 26th [April 1911]. At 3 oclock I fetched Mme Schiff & took her over to the Giudecca to see our little hospital. She was tremendously surprised & delighted at the cleanliness & comfort of it and her astonishment seemed to take away her breath. She is a visitor at the Italian hospital and a very good charitable lady & promises to go often to see our patients. Monty Alderson arrived from England to stay with us & Eda took him in the morning to the 2nd Lamoureux concert at the Fenice given by the Benedetto Marcello. I had Mr Taplin after dinner who came to arrange about auditing the Hospital accounts for the last year. He is a young clerk here in Venice. Just as he was leaving me we fell to talking about his own career & how anxious he was to get away from Venice. I then found he is in the Standard Oil Co & I promised to speak to Mr MacDonald about him—as I had made the MacD’s acquaintance in Egypt.
