20 May 1911 — 3 Savile Row
Saturday. 20th [May 1911]. I went to the Victoria Station & left with Edward by 10.25 train for Dorking to spend Sunday with him at Springfield Lodge. Blanche has taken it of Mrs Rate for a couple of months for week end visits to the country. It was originally a farm house & in 1895 I took it of the Rates & furnished it with extra furniture I had on leaving 1 Queen Anne Street—but it was more for the use of my sister Maria than myself & I used to lend it to her. This annoyed my landlord’s wife (Mrs Rate) and she made unpleasant remarks about the Du Cane occupation, so I quietly withdrew from the bargain & gave it up. It is a charmingly quiet little place and within easy reach from London– Blanche came down to join us for luncheon bringing Gweneth, Margery Skinner & Bertie. Paid Mrs Rate a visit later– Milton Garden is more lovely than even. The Oranmores were there on a week end visit.
