19 June 1911 — Milton Court, nr. Dorking, Surrey
Monday. 19th [June 1911]. The electric brougham came to fetch me at 11 & I started off—but when we got to the steep hill between Ewell & Wimbledon Common the electricity gave out & we stuck on the hill. I got out & had to walk over the Common by Parkside & down Putney Hill till at that station I got a taxi cab which brought me home. I had not walked on Putney Hill since I was a girl when my mother, & afterwards my sister Maria lived at Exeter House on Putney Common. How it all carries me back this a time which seems like a dream & how many things I have done & places have I seen seen since then. I got home after 2 & found lunch still going on– The Wylds there & Nelly Du Cane & Mary Alderson arrived to stay with me. Took a short walk with Nellie W. & home to tea to wh Connie came with her d. in law (Corise Eliot). Eda arrived to stay about 6– Lady Egerton & her son Michael came to dinner but were ½ hour late on account of stoppages in the streets. The traffic is tremendous & crowds enormous.
