26 August 1911 — Bessborough, Fiddown, County Kilkenny
Saturday. 26th [August 1911]. Blanche & Connie & Gweneth went out driving to a tennis party at some distance so I spent most of the day helping Vere to paint his drop scene in the coach house—the interior of Portia’s house at Venice! Towards 6 p.m. we took a walk round by Piltown village & paid a visit to a very nice young man who is dying of consumption. He is the son of the 2nd land agent here—& has been at Trinity Coll, Dublin—& now lies in bed worn & emaciated—a good looking lad & an only child. The poor mother never leaves him & one grieves for her. Mr & Mrs Puck Beresford arrived to stay here.
