3 October 1911 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 3rd [October 1911]. I had my usual evening reception & a good many people came. Lady Winifred Gore who was coming out to stay here telegraphed that at our F.O. she is advised not to come on acct of the war. I cant see the logic of it but there is evidently a scare in Europe over it. Most of our English papers criticise the action of the Italian Govt and the Italians are very sore thereat. Turkey seems to be considered lawful prey to any European power that may wish to extend her sphere.
