2 December 1911 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 2nd December [1911]. I had my first mud application to my hands for a cure for rheumatism. A nice woman brought a large pot of volcanic mud from the Establishment at San Gotto & applied it to both hands for ½ hour after wh she plunged them in very hot water for 5 minutes—then massé them for another 5 minutes—rather a pleasant process. If only this will cure me & make my hands strong again. Nora Hallé comes every day to help me to enamel & my hands have much to occupy them in that & many other ways.
