31 December 1911 — En route to Cairo
Sunday. 31st [December 1911]. We could get no refreshments on the line & luckily had a tea basket with us– We arrived an hour late at Brindisi & went straight on board the P&O “Osiris” & got lunch– Afterwards we walked to Palazzo Montenegro where the P&O manager Uloth lives & called on him. We found a small party of his friends there amongst them the Capt of the Osiris Capt. [illegible word] a very pleasant man– After taking tea & sitting & talking some time Mr Uloth took us on board. He dined also there. We went to bed early & the Osiris steamed off in the middle of the night having waited the arrival of the P&O Express with the Indian mail.
