22 January 1912 — Luxor | |
Monday. 22nd [January 1912]. Such a lovely morning that at 10.30 we took our work & book & sat in the gardens. There we had a visit from Countess Contadone who had a bad cold. Her friend Mrs Lascelles leaves her tonight for Cairo & she will remain alone in the dahabeeyah which people say is foolish of her as natives have small respect for women. After lunch I finished the piece of work I have been busy with—& have traced the whole pattern in silk. At 3 we went to the Luxor temple & looked round it for an hour. Then went to the W. Palace Hotel for lunch & there met Mr Whymper & he accompanied us to the house of Mr & Mrs [illegible word] on whom we wanted to call. Mr J. not being at home we walked round the nice little garden & then returned to Luxor. | |
