23 January 1912 — Luxor | |
Tuesday. 23rd [January 1912]. Sat in the garden reading & working all the morng. After lunch went for a walk with Eda down by the Nile & there met Mrs Andrews & her nieces & went with her to old Mohammed Ibn’s shop & there we were joined by Mr Theodore Davis. Mrs Andrews wanted him to buy for her old Egyptian necklaces & it was very amusing seeing her trying to persuade him to do so. We left the house before the bargain was concluded & went back to our hotel to tea & then went out again by the Nile to see the afterglow of the sunset which was very fine ending in a deep orange colour. We met Marquesa Guadalmina who invited us to go to tea with her tomorrow at the Savoy Hotel which we said he wd to. European post came in today. I wrote a long letter to Queen Margherita asking if I might go to stay with her abt 26th Feby. | |
